History Reimagined
Constructed in 1885, The Paper Factory began its life as the corporate headquarters of Peter Woll & Sons. At the time, Kensington was affectionately known as The Workshop of the World, and Kensington was the epicenter of textile manufacturing.
Peter Woll & Sons produced “curled hair” products, which were used to stuff chairs, sofas, and the seats on stagecoaches. In its heyday, the company had two additional factories across the street from The Paper Factory, in addition to stores in New York and Chicago. The company’s sign can still be seen on the western side of the building.
In the mid-twentieth century, the factory changed hands and became the Globe Paper Company, which produced commercial paper products.
Now we have transformed the property into 30 luxury loft apartments. Extensive care was taken to reimagine the property to the highest level possible, including working with the National Parks Service and the Philadelphia Historic Commission on its restoration.
